What it does and when to use it

On a sheet that extends to the right as well as down, Ctrl+End goes to the corner where both end. Follow it with Ctrl+Home to size the sheet in two presses.

The common mistake

Forgetting hidden columns: Ctrl+End counts them, so the landing cell can be out of sight.

Questions

Why does Ctrl+End select a cell I cannot see?

The column or row is hidden. Unhide with Ctrl+Shift+0 or Ctrl+Shift+9 after selecting across it.
