What it does and when to use it
With a whole column selected, Ctrl+Shift+= inserts a blank column to its left without a dialog. Everything to the right shifts and the formulas adjust.
The common mistake
Inserting with a cell selected and clicking through the shift dialog. Select the column first and there is no dialog.
