What it does and when to use it
Ctrl+End moves to the bottom-right corner of everything the sheet has ever used. If it lands far below your data, the sheet carries formatting or leftovers that bloat the file.
The common mistake
Reading the landing cell as the end of the data: it is the end of the used range, which includes formatted empty cells. Delete those rows and save to reset it.

Questions
Why does Ctrl+End go to an empty cell?
Something was once entered or formatted there. Delete the rows and columns beyond your data, save the file, and Ctrl+End will land on the real last cell.
